Christmas Advent Calendar Tree

Phew that title is a mouth full! Hello all. I-team member Sonja here with my take on the newest JGW Christmas Ornament Tree (currently on sale). Now I wanted to do an advent calendar for my kids because like many of you, mine are driving me nuts asking me when Christmas is! Once I saw this new set in the store, I knew it would be perfect to make it into an advent calendar.

I put in a little extra work as everything from the tree topper, stand arms, and the ornaments are double sided to accommodate the numbers for our countdown.

To bring extra highlights to my pieces, I grabbed my Craftwell eBrush and some Sharpie markers to bring some color to the edges. 

My 5-year-old came over while I was doing this and asked "whoa is that magic". Yes, yes it is! 

Other than using the Cameo 3 and the eBrush, I didn't add any other fancy machinery to this project. I wanted to focus on the project itself.

The front of my tree has numbers 1-12

 I have to say the poinsettia ornament was my favorite out of all of them.

 Flip the tree around and there are numbers 13-24 to finish off the tree

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!

And then its my most favorite time of the year.

Tracy here from the Idea Closet and I love counting down for Christmas; every year we do a few different advents.

This year I used the Calendar Blocks from SVG Attic, Santa Cant Wait,  to create count down blocks.

This was such a fun project and there is so many ways to decorate it.

For the words, instead of the months, I printed "Here Comes Santa" and placed it on the front block.

...I can use the blocks as dice when we play our white elephant game at the family party.

Vacation Countdown Calendar

Hello SVG Attic fans! It's Apryl with the Guest Design Team sharing another fun project!  I call it the Vacation Countdown Calendar.  I took the Christmas Advent Calendar and gave it a makeover!  This is a fun way for the family to do a vacation destination reveal by hiding hints in the calendar each day, or a way for each family member to share what they want to do and see while on the trip.  

The advent calendar design is from the Christmas Advent Calendar kit and instead of using the Christmas tree and packages in the center shadow box portion, I used the SDS Paris Voyage kit.  The suitcase, Eiffel Tower, and cruise ship are in this kit along with "journey", "dream" and "bon voyage". 

This was really fun to put together.  The paper is a combination of Basic Grey's Wander collection and Little Yellow Bicycle's The Escape Collection.  There were some great embellishments from these collections that I incorporated into the calendar:  clouds, airplane, camera, advent drawer numbers.  

Most kids LOVE advents and mine are dying to use this one!  They can't wait for us to plan our next vacation just so they can use this countdown calendar.

Advent Christmas Tree ~ with Cyndy

For this post I decided to tackle the JGW Tree Stack Box.  I have seen several in green and a beautiful white one in our Winter Blog Hop this past weekend.  I wondered how it would look if I used several different patterned papers for the drawers.

I am very pleased with the result.  I used 15 sheets of paper for this.  I know this sounds like a lot but it didn't feel like it.  I used 6 patterned papers (one set of four drawers will fit on one 12x12 sheet), 4 sheets of red and 5 sheets of brown.  I even made use of the half tree wedges (these are so you can use a 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper).  If you put a whole tree wedge in the center of a 12x12 page you can fit two half's upside down on either side.  This enabled me to cut the six wedges with only 3 sheets of paper!

I used little buttons instead of eyelets.  I also decided that I would put little red bows in the drawers.  When the tree is finished being decorated it is Christmas Eve!

I know this tree looks like a very daunting task to put together but it is a simple project.  The hardest thing about this project is that there are 24 little boxes and 24 little slots for the boxes to slide in.  So it takes time to put these 48 pieces together.  The result is well worth it.  It looks very complicated and you will get a lot of oohs and aahs over this one.  So far this is one of my favorite projects.

December 1st is right around the corner but there is still time to get an advent calendar finished!
