Mad Hatter's Mourner's Hat with a Twist?

Hello - I'm taking over the blog again this Sunday with more Halloween spookiness.

I really can't decided whether it's a Mad Hatter's Hat or a Mourner's Hat. It's definitely a hat!

I wanted to make the Mourner's Hat from the JGW Raven Quest kit this Halloween but as I progressed, the project changed due to my hyperactive brain. "I wonder if this can be done.....?" "Hmmmm can I do this…..?"

The answer: Yes! I did it. Presenting the Halloween Mad Hatter's Mourner's Hat with a twist:

The hat is made from AC Cardstock in Black and Charcoal and inked with Ingvild Bolme Chalk Ink in White.

I made the panels and the little shelves myself with the Silhouette Software. The Panels are embossed with a Bark patterned embossing folder from Darice.

I made small holes in the back of each shelf for the light to shine through.

I added a scratch mark in one of the panels and backed it with vellum - also for light to shine through. I found it in the Silhouette Design Store Design ID #118964 by Sophie Gallo.

Then I got busy decorating the hat with all sorts of nick nack Halloween style I could find in my stash.

The flowers are from Prima, several of the decor pieces are from Ideaology  and the gem swirls are from BoBunny.

I wrapped "Mummy Cloth" around the hat as a band and also around the bow.

One of the most awesome feature, is the Zombie Hand that holds the lantern. It's also from Ideaology and I love it to bits....It's so cool.

We're All a Little Mad Here ~ with Cyndy G

Good morning crafty friends, thank you for joining me.  Today I have a project from SVG Attic using the Mourners Hat from the JGW Raven Quest Kit.  This is my favorite hat file!

I shrunk my hat it stands only five inches tall.  I love these hats in this size.

I added some embellishments that I got from Aliexpress.  I love the prices of this store and the shipping was reasonable.  Most items arrived within three weeks. 

  I have always struggled in the past when putting the rim on this hat.  This time I glued the pieces one at a time to the rim and then glued the upper part of the hat together.  It was so much easier to put together this way!  Thank you for stopping by.

Tis The Season with Lisa

Happy Friday, everyone! Lisa from The Relativity of Paper taking over the blog today with my first Christmas Project. It's been two years since I've used the Mourner's Hat from the JGW Raven Quest Kit to create a Christmas Top Hat. 

I originally made this hat for my Mother and she used it for two years. And then I said "Mom, it's time to let it go", it was becoming a little worn. She insisted that I make another one to replace it, I agreed and here we are.  I used DCWV Merry Memories Stack and the embellishments are repurposed from an old "designer" tree she had.

Mourners Hat ~ with Cyndy G

Hello today I am sharing one of my favorite files from SVG Attic - the Mourner's Hat from JGW Raven Quest.  I just love how this file comes together.  It's not to hard and the result is stunning.

I used some Mod Podge on my hat to help protect it and I love the result!  

It took a little bit of work to get the flower looking like I wanted but I am please with the end result.  I painted it with some colored glitter glue.  I think I will be using more of this stuff!

Steampunk Mourner's Hat

Its October and that means lots of exciting Halloween projects.
Tracy here from the Idea Closet.

This week for the SVG Attic Design team I decided to make a Steampunk Mourner's Hat.

This is such a fun project and easy to do as well.

It is the Mourner's Hat from the JGW Raven Quest Collection with a few changes.

Follow Jody's instructions here to cut out and build the basic hat. 

(She gives you a step by step pattern complete with photos, that is easy to follow.)

To decorate the hat and turn it in to a true steam punk  I first added a paper overlay with some printed paper.

The feathers were perfect for the hat so I made 1 large and 2 of the smaller ones; ink them up just a little with some silver-glitter ink.

The two flowers are a design of my own that I had leftover from a different project, but you could use the carnation flower that comes with the file or even some silk flowers.

To finish off the hat I added some black tulle around the base of the hat.

I am so pleased with how this turned out!

Look I Made A Hat, Again with Lisa

Hi, everyone! Lisa from In The Crafting Cave with you today. I'm sharing a great way to use the JGW Mourner's Hat from the JGW Raven Quest Collection for Spring/Summer. I love this hat because you can use it for anything. Seriously, 

I've used it for Spring, Summer, and Christmas. Maybe I should use it for Halloween sometime. 

This time, I made it for my Mom, she loves the hat too. She requested it be yellow with gray and go from Easter/Spring to Summer. 

  

Summer

So I used yellow cardstock to create the hat and a warm gray patterned paper for 

trim, bow, and feather. The flowers, leaves, and moss are from my craft stash.
The Easter Eggs are from the Easter Elements Collections.

TIP
Wooden Skewers are a must in my craft room. You can pick them 
up at your local big box stores or grocery stores. They are inexpensive and can be used for a multitude of things. I did a lot of hot gluing on this hat and the skewers helped me tuck and hold pieces saving my fingers. Also, I cut one into thirds and glued to the back of the Easter Eggs to hold them in place. Once Easter is over the eggs can be easily removed.

Mourner's Hat ~ with Cyndy G.

Today I want to share with you my Mourner's Hat from the JGW Raven Quest Kit.  I have been wanting to get the hat made using my Graphic 45, Steampunk Spells paper.

I love this hat and I love how it looks with this paper.  

I did have to cut out the image of the lady and the title Steampunk Spells to get them to show the way I wanted on the hat.  I am very please with how everything came together.

Mourner's Hat By Christi

Good Morning!  It is a beautiful , crisp  Sunday here and I wanted to share a Halloween project with you.  I choose the unique Mourner's hat in the JGW Raven Quest Collection.

I am always looking for unique Halloween decorations for Halloween.  It is my youngest daughter's favorite holiday.  She even got married on Halloween 2 years ago and collects many beautiful pieces to keep up all year round.  I thought this was something she could add to her collection.

Here are some close ups of the Flowers which are made by Prima.  I just fell in love with these flowers when I found them and they have been in my stash FOREVER and was saving them for that special project.  Well....this was that project.

Next came the bling!  Every project isn't complete without a little bit of bling!  This is Paper Studio from Hobby Lobby.

Last by not least I made the bow but added Mays art Black Ribbon to the center and around the brim of the hat.  I also added  a beautiful full purple feather and a small turquoise with black feather for that small touch of extra color.

I was born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I married a soldier and an amazing man. He is very supportive of everything I do. We retired in 2009, yes, I say we. Army wife is one tough, lonely job. We don’t have kids but I do have a niece, Brittany, who likes to think she is ours. Love that girl! 
    I work in my parent's business. I’m so lucky because I get to see my Dad nearly every day and my Mom most days. I also get to go to work, do what has to be done, and come home. It truly is an amazing job and it offers me a lot of free time for crafting and taking care of my home. I am one blessed girl.

     When people say what is your crafting style, I say.....Seriously, I don’t have a style. I just go with whatever strikes my fancy, you know, in the moment kind of girl. When it comes to cards I like CAS over everything else but that doesn’t stop me from using those embellishments!

  If I have to pick a favorite project up to now.... it will be this Top Hat I made using the Mourner’s Hat from Raven Quest Collection .

I had so much fun making this hat into a Spring/Easter Hat.

 I can take this hat from Spring to Easter and back to Spring just by removing the little chocolate bunny! I attached him to a wood dowel so that I could remove him without damaging anything.
